> Chen Qiufan (陈楸帆, also known as Stanley Chan, b. 1981, Shantou, China) is an award-winning Chinese science fiction writer, futurist and curator. He is the author of the novel Waste Tide (荒潮, 2013; English translation by Ken Liu, 2019, Tor/Head of Zeus), co-author with Kai-Fu Lee of the global bestseller AI 2041: Ten Visions for Our Future (2021), and author of the novel Ocean Break (刹海, 2025, Huacheng Publishing House). His work is often described as "science fiction realism."

- Awards: 12× Chinese Nebula (Xingyun) Awards, 3× Galaxy (Yinhe) Awards, Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire 2023 (Waste Tide, best translated novel, France), The Guardian Best SF & Fantasy Books of 2019 (Waste Tide), Locus Award Best First Novel finalist 2020, Mao Dun Emerging Writers Award 2022. AI 2041 was named a Best Book of 2021 by The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and the Financial Times.
- Career: graduated from Peking University (2004, dual degrees in Chinese literature and film & television arts); worked at Google and Baidu; full-time writer since 2017.
- Current roles: Assistant Professor at Hong Kong Metropolitan University; President of the World Chinese Science Fiction Association; Deputy Director of the SF Committee, China Writers Association; Vice President of the China Science Writers Association. Former Yale University (MacMillan Center / Whitney Humanities Center) scholar and Berggruen Institute fellow; SCI-Arc 2022 Futurist-in-Residence.
- His 100+ short stories since 1997 have appeared in Science Fiction World, People's Literature, Harvest, Clarkesworld, F&SF, Lightspeed, Interzone, MIT Technology Review and Slate, and are collected in Invisible Planets and Broken Stars (ed. Ken Liu). Works translated into 10+ languages.
- TED talk: "A sci-fi vision of life in 2041" (2021). Speaker at COP28, Paris Peace Forum, Frankfurt Book Fair, Les Utopiales, re:publica Berlin.
